Probiotic foods or fermented foods top the list of superfoods in a survey of the nation’s registered dietitian nutritionists. These foods contain friendly bacteria that boost the immune system and lead to a healthy gut. So what should you pick up at the supermarket when searching for probiotic foods? Yogurt and kefir, of course. But more mainstream foods like sauerkraut and pickles will do the trick. And so will more exotic types like tempeh, kombucha, kimchi and mismo. The Dietitian Survey predicts the top ten superfoods this year (following probiotics) will be avocados, seeds, nuts, green tea, ancient grains (like quinoa), kale, exotic fruits, coconut products, and salmon. Hungry, anyone?
